Masks are now en Vogue.

Stoically posing in her signature bob and oversized sunglasses — with a cloth covering her nose and mouth — famed Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour is calling on all fashionistas to cover their faces while shopping for groceries and other essentials, in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

“As we are learning from health officials, this is one of the most important steps we can take to slow the spread of this virus,” Wintour, 70, writes in a new first-person article for Vogue.

In the piece, the iconic editrix — who also serves as Condé Nast’s artistic director and the global content advisor for the company’s international brands — also notes what she’s grateful for.

Her list includes acts of fashion philanthropy, her granddaughter, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s daily press conferences, her hardworking Vogue team and David Hockney’s iPad paintings of daffodils. She also encourages fashion fans to join her in social distancing at home with the season’s life-changing accessory: a face mask.

No mask of your own? No problem. You can DIY by following these easy steps. Or use a scarf, as suggested by the fashion queen herself.

“If you don’t have a medical mask, a simple fabric covering will do,” says the magazine maven.

Wintour has teamed up with fellow fashion change-maker Tom Ford to repurpose the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund for 2020 into a new initiative, called A Common Thread. Its mission is to spread awareness and raise funds for Americans affected by the pandemic.
