Dan Walker, 44, has warned BBC Breakfast viewers that they may witness a “clash going on” after he suffered a blunder while getting dressed in the dark at home this morning. The presenter previously revealed he often avoids turning on too many lights and making noise when he gets ready for work in the early hours of each morning so he doesn’t wake his wife Sarah Walker and their three children, Susie, 13, Jessica, 11, and Joe, 10.

However, the former Football Focus host’s kind gesture caused him to make an unfortunate wardrobe error today.

Dan took to Twitter to share his mishap with his 714,000 followers this morning in a behind-the-scenes snap.

The star could be seen in his dressing room grimacing at the mirror in a candid selfie as he pointed down to show off his neon orange socks.

Dan explained he had mistakenly picked up the vibrant socks, which sparked a colour clash with his electric blue tie and navy blue suit that he was set to wear on air.

The journalist wrote alongside the photo: “Early warning that I grabbed some socks in the dark this morning and… well… there may be a bit of a colour clash going on #BBCBreakfast.

Dan completed his tweet with blue and orange circle emojis and a flushed face emoji.

Fans took to the comments section of Dan’s post to share their thoughts on his outfit blunder.

One person wrote: “Are they red or orange, Dan? Don’t worry, we can’t see them behind the studio table!”

Another added: “Yikes! They are bright! Surprised you couldn’t see them in the dark!”

A third fan replied: “Cracking color……but they don’t match your tie. A bit unusual.”(sic)

A fourth person commented: “At least the socks match the sofa!”

“What bank do you work for,” a fifth fan quipped.

A sixth person joked that Dan should ask his co-star Naga Munchetty for help.

They penned: “Ask Naga she might have a pair of spare tights!!!”

Dan previously gave an insight into his home life and admitted his tendency to be “a bit of a night owl” hasn’t helped him with his early starts on BBC Breakfast.

Detailing his evening routine with his family, the host told The Times earlier this year: “We have dinner together, then the younger children are in bed at 8pm and the eldest at nine.

“I get an email with prospects for the next day at about eight.

“I’ve always been a bit of a night owl, but lights go out at 10.45. I try to make sure that by the end of the day I am absolutely shattered, so when my head hits the pillow I’m a goner.

“I hate going to bed early. On days off I stay up late but still get up at 6.30.”

Dan then admitted: “I’ve pulled an all-nighter twice on Breakfast and regretted it on both occasions.

“When I took over from Bill Turnbull, he said: ‘The only advice I will give you is try to manage your sleep.’ Foolishly, I’ve almost entirely ignored him.”
