Dr Hilary Jones, 67, was seen on Good Morning Britain today laughing, after the Gogglebox cast was shown watching a savage exchange between himself and Rod Humphris, owner of The Raven pub in Bath, on the ITV Breakfast show last week. The clash between the doctor and the landlord came on April 20, when the latter criticised the effectiveness of lockdown in the fight against coronavirus.

I think you should stick to pulling pints rather than advising the government

The pub owner claimed that other countries had got a handle on the pandemic without going into lockdown.

However, Dr Hilary hit back that areas that locked down earlier for longer are in a better position now.

He quipped: “I think you should stick to pulling pints rather than advising the government about policy on the biggest pandemic public health issue for the last 100 years.”

The hilarious moment was aired during Friday night’s Gogglebox with the families watching firmly on Dr Hilary’s side.

The TV doctor reacted to the scenes when they were aired in today’s episode of Good Morning Britain, and looked pretty pleased with himself.

Susana Reid responded to the footage: “You have finally made it to Gogglebox fame.”

Dr Hilary replied: “When you texted me I did have a cheeky look and I thought, ‘Yes’.”

“Good on the Gogglebox guys they’re very well informed,” Adil Ray replied.

In the Gogglebox footage, the Siddiqui family were shown saying: “Dr Hilary doesn’t need his s**t does he.”

While cast member Marcus Luther said: “You can’t really argue with that.”

His wife Mica Venn agreed: “Exactly and he shouldn’t.”

Pete Sandiford said: “Does he not realise [Mr Humphris] you can have it [coronavirus] more than once?”

Dr Hilary also pointed out to the landlord that with every peak we’ve had during the pandemic, a lockdown has been ordered which has resulted in falling numbers.

However, Mr Humphris claimed that when lockdowns have occurred, the “infections have already been falling”.

He insisted that there is no “causal link” between lockdown measures and lack of deaths.

But the health expert questioned how he thought case numbers came down without lockdown.

Mr Humphris referred to coronavirus as a “seasonal virus” which prompted Dr Hilary to become irritated.

The TV star hit back: “A seasonal virus? That’s been going on all year?”

The landlord first went viral after he refused to serve Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer in his pub.

Mr Starmer had popped into the Bath-based pub for a pint and the landlord, who claimed to be a lifelong Labour voter, had to be held back by security guards as he told the politician he was “not welcome” in the establishment.
