Lawncare Association’s David Hedges Gower previously hit the headlines for disagreeing with Monty Don, 65, who said “cutting grass burns lots of fossil fuel, makes a filthy noise, and is about the most injurious thing you can do to wildlife”. David hit back at the Gardeners’ World host, saying his theory was “wrong” and that lawn care is greener than he thinks.
I certainly don’t think I’ll be on his Christmas card list

Addressing his comments, the lawn consultant said the pair will never be friends and claimed that Monty wasn’t educated enough about the topic.
Speaking on the Horticulture Week podcast, he was asked if the duo could ever be friends.
Laughing, he replied: “I don’t think we will ever be mates, there’s somebody who is very passionate about lawns and somebody who doesn’t like them very much at all, I don’t think we’d have anything to talk about in the pub, let’s be fair.
“And, I certainly don’t think I’ll be on his Christmas card list anytime soon either.
“I get very frustrated when people aren’t particularly educated in lawn care and come out and probably do damage to a point.
“They’ll be people who do listen to him who think he knows more about lawn care than me.”
“He has a detrimental effect on something he doesn’t particularly know about and that’s frustrating, that annoys me.”
David went on to say that lawns and grass is the most “sustainable plant” on the planet.
“We need it and we can look after it better,” he added.
In a further swipe, he urged the Gardeners’ World star to keep his “mouth shut” when it comes to lawns.
“Carry on with your brilliant presenting,” he continued.
David added there were a few of Monty’s points that he did agree with such as letting rewilding happen in gardens and his No mow May challenge.

It’s not the first time The Royal Horticultural Society tutor has been stung by one of Monty’s comments.
David claims that the presenter was left unimpressed with a picture he tweeted in 2016.
He told The Telegraph: “I tweeted a picture of my daughter Tara’s lawn which I sowed with a mix of native fescue, bent grass and dwarf rye grass.
“Monty commented, ‘That’s just a manicured lawn’. There were no chemicals used and I haven’t mown it yet.”
Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Monty for comment.
On his Twitter page, the horticulturist regularly responds to fans’ queries and gives them an insight into his gardening antics.
Last week, he shared a picture of his dog Nellie in his garden watching him film for the show.
“A rather bemused Nellie watching me speak to the robot cameras whilst filming the next episode of GW,” he commented, in view of his 229,000 followers.
Gardeners’ World airs tonight at 9pm on BBC Two.
