Harry Redknapp and his wife Sandra have opened up about life after I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!. The couple were thrust into the spotlight after he was crowned king of the jungle in 2018.
She’s not mad on it and could do without it
The 74-year-old wowed ITV viewers during his time in the jungle, beating Emily Atack and John Barrowman in the final.
However, his reality television debut has brought unwanted attention on his spouse of more than five decades.
She was a regular topic of conversation for the retired football manager around the campfire.
Many at home fell in love with their long-running romance, as he pined to be reunited with her – and her cooking.
But the pair have now revealed how the media glare is something neither of them are a fan of.
This is especially true of Sandra, who likes to “keep herself to herself”.
Harry and his other half spoke candidly after being asked how they’d be celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary next week.
“We’re not big party people,” he commented. “We like going out for dinner a couple of nights, but we’re very quiet really.
“We just like each other’s company. We’d get embarassed having a big party. I don’t really like the attention being on me.”
When he was told many would be surprised to hear that, he swiftly agreed.
Harry continued: “It’s only since I did the jungle that Sandra has been put in the spotlight, it’s not something she ever wanted to do.
“She’s not mad on it and could do without it.”
She quickly echoed his statment: “No I’m not keen on the limelight if I’m honest. I like to keep to myself.
“But being married to Harry I’m used to him being in the spotlight and always being on TV.”
Thankfully, despite this, Harry has no regrets about taking part in I’m A Celebrity, fronted that year by Declan Donnelly and Holly Willoughby.
He went on to tell this week’s OK! Magazine: “I met a really nice group of people and it was good fun. I’m still in touch with everyone.”
Sandra said that she was also “pleased” he signed up, although said she found watching him nerve-wracking.
Harry appeared alongside Emily, John, Fleur East, James McVey, Nick Knowles, Anne Hegerty, Rita Simons, Sair Khan, Malique Thompson-Dwyer and Noel Edmonds.
He was an early favourite to triumph, and amassed more than 65 per cent of the votes in the finale.
Harry and Sandra have been married since 1967 and they share two sons: Mark, 51, and Jamie, 48.
