Holly Willoughby wants to enter next stage of life ‘without fear’ as she talks menopause

Holly Willoughby has opened up on her feelings towards entering the next phase of her life during a segment of ITV's This Morning.

The 40 year old, who donned a gorgeous polka dot shirt and leather skirt on the show, discussed going through menopause with fellow TV presenter, 49 year old Lisa Snowdon, who got her first symptoms of the perimenopause at the age of 42.

Introducing her on the programme, Holly said: "Lisa let's bring you in here now because it's your 50th birthday and the 23rd of this month. Happy Birthday for that coming up, but you were about 42 when you first started…"

"About eight years ago," Lisa replied as Holly continued: "About eight years ago, so I'm sitting here like a sponge. This is my next phase of life.

"I want to go into this without being fearful and I think the best way of doing that is to listen to other women, hear their stories, educate myself and learn."

Holly added: "So I want to hear your story and what your symptoms were then."

Lisa then explained: "Like you, I was 42, I had no idea. I didn't even know what the perimenopause was. I knew about the menopause-ish, but at school your learn about your periods, puberty, pregnancy – never was perimenopause or menopause mentioned so I was completely in the dark.

"I thought it would happen perhaps many many years in the future. Looking back, I think the first symptoms were this depression and anxiety. This feeling of being completely out of control. Things I would do usually, I couldn't do. It just felt very strange, I couldn't process it."

Holly, who recently revealed she smuggled booze into the Dancing On Ice 2021 final, also took to her Instagram feed to speak out on the menopause.

Holly, who is mum to kids Harry, 12, Belle, 10, and Chester, seven, added: "I’ll be all ears… it’s coming in my next phase of life and as with everything I want to approach it without fear and I think knowledge is the key to that… see you at 10am." followed by a red heart emoji.

Fans were quick to praise the star on her honesty as one person wrote: "This is so brilliant. I’ve just been taking to some friends about this, we’ve all been or are going through it now and for me it was a really hard time. Wish more had been said earlier so I would know I wasn’t going mad."
