Hollyoaks stars married in real life forced to close business due to economic crisis
Hollyoaks stars Claire Cooper and Emmett Scanlan, who are also married in real life, have been forced to close down their bakery due to the "economic crisis".
The couple, who featured in the hit Channel 4 show until 2013 as Brendan Brady and Jacqui McQueen, opened the Doughnut Whisperer in Chester last year.
However, despite Claire originally describing the business as a "dream come true," things haven't gone well in recent months.
A statement shared on the business's Facebook reads: "To all who have supported & devoured our doughnuts – thank you
"It’s with a heavy heart we will be closing our doors, due to the current economic crisis that the U.K. is facing, unfortunately it has sadly forced our hand to step back … temporarily.
It continued: "It gives us time to work with new partners without losing the quality of our outstanding award winning doughnuts.
"You have all been AMAZING you’ve championed us, supported us & given us so much love throughout our mini journey to date, we’ve met incredible customers & colleagues along the way, in fact that always makes a decision such as this even harder.
"Thank you for your loyalty. Thank you to our extraordinary talented team – you are more than we could have ever have hoped for, you have served up the BEST DOUGHNUTS going FACT. You have been family.
"As we find our feet & navigate through this next chapter we want to say cheerio for now but not forever!"
The statement added that the final order date is 6 October and the last day the shop will be open is 8 October.
Concluding, Claire and Emmett said: "Thank you again for backing a much loved family brand & with much gratitude from everyone at TDW."
Speaking to CheshireLive after they first opened the Doughnut Whisperer, the couple said: "We always dreamed of opening up a small drop in shop, somewhere cosy and inviting, a place where you can swing by and stock up on your doughnuts for the weekend so it's great to have achieved that dream.
"Like all new businesses we have had to find our groove and there are always complications along the way, but we're proud to have overcome any that have presented themselves."
Following the announcement fans of the bakery flooded the comments section with many wishing them all the best for the future.
One person said: "Oh no! I’m so, so sorry to hear your news. You doughnuts really are the best. Loads of luck with your ventures and I hope to see you back soon. Thank you. Xxxx."
Another customer wrote: "This is such sad news…I’m so sorry to hear this, but really hope you can come back soon!"
And a third person said: "This is sad to hear. Yet another amazing vegan business closing. We love your doughnuts! All the best for the future, guys."
