Joe Wicks turns down TV offers to keep workout open to everyone

Joe Wicks has revealed that he’s turned down offers to move his daily PE lessons to terrestrial TV in order to keep them free and easily accessible for the nation during the coronavirus pandemic.

The fitness influencer and personal trainer has recently taken on the role of the country’s PE teacher, drawing in more than 15 million viewers in his first week of morning exercise sessions following the closure of the UK’s schools under coronavirus lockdown.

With stats like that, Joe has naturally been inundated with offers to bring the show to TV, with Channel 4 reportedly looking to sign the 33-year-old up after working with him in the past.

However, appearing on BBC Radio 2, Joe admitted that he’d rather keep the show open to everyone, saying: ‘I have decided I want to stay on YouTube because I want it to have a global reach.

‘I don’t want to be exclusive to one place. I have been blown away by the response.’

It comes as Joe, also known as the Body Coach, announced that any ad revenue he was bringing in from the daily video workouts would be donated to the NHS.

‘Words can’t express how happy and proud I have felt every day this week as the nations P.E. teacher [sic],’ he wrote on Instagram.

‘I’ve been overwhelmed with the response and the support it’s had from everyone.

‘As a result of so many people viewing the #PEWithJoe workouts on YouTube the advertising revenue generated has been unlike anything I’ve seen or experienced on my channel before.’

The father-of-two continued: ‘So I’ve decided that as long as I’m the nations P.E. teacher, every single penny of the money generated on these videos is going to the place where we need it the most right now.’

What a gent.

P.E. With Joe airs weekdays from 9am live on BodyCoachTV’s YouTube channel.
