Martin Roberts, 57, responded to a Homes Under The Hammer viewer who questioned him on Tommy Walsh’s involvement in the show. The DIY expert joined the BBC property programme earlier this year alongside fellow new recruit Jacqui Joseph. Tommy is best known for his days on DIY television series Ground Force, but one fan wondered why he had been appointed on the popular BBC show, hosted by Martin, Martel Maxwell and Dion Dublin.

Who wouldn’t want a legend like Tommy as part of the show

During Martin’s Monday Q&A session, the viewer quizzed: “How come Tommy is now involved on hammer?”

Martin replied: “It’s been all hands on deck during lockdown.

He added: “And who wouldn’t want a legend like Tommy as part of the show.”

Ahead of his debut on the show, Tommy, who has 60 years experience in the field, said of his new role, he said: “I’m looking forward to joining the Homes Under The Hammer team, and hope that my knowledge and experience will be a useful addition.

“I really enjoy the show and coincidentally the house I share with my family was purchased at auction and we all love it, so hopefully I can help both contributors and viewers with the choices they make too.”

After the broadcaster announced the pair would be joining the team last year, fans worried that Martin, who is the show’s longest-running presenter, would be stepping down.

But he reassured viewers he wouldn’t be leaving the show after 17-years at the helm.

“I see that HUTH is getting two new presenters,” one fan asked.

“That will take you to five presenters. How do you think it will work or are they putting you out to pasture? #AskMartinMonday.”

Confirming he’s remaining at his post, Martin replied: “Thank you for your support.

“No, I’m not out to pasture. A lot of it is down to the challenges of filming in the current climate.”

The viewer responded with a GIF that expressed relief than the telly favourite isn’t packing it all in.

Back to present day, Martin apologised for being silent on social media for the past week, after one of his Twitter followers asked him how he was feeling.

It comes after the Homes Under The Hammer presenter and his family lost their beloved dog Rolo, who had been suffering from inflamed bowel disease.

Fans of the property expert know that Monday morning’s are usually an opportunity for them to ask Martin questions to do with real estate or pretty much anything the pops into their minds, but last week he was eerily silent.

However, on Monday he was back and addressed his mysterious absence after a fan quizzed him.

“Good Morning Martin. How have you been?” they wondered.

“Really been missing you on here. What have you been up to? Have you been doing more filming for HUTH? #AskMartinMonday.”

The caring question really touched Martin, as he replied sending the viewer big hugs.

“Hi Wendy, I’ve not been in the best of places so excuse me the radio silence,” he admitted.

“But I’m back filming and back on here, so big hugs!”

Another fan asked how the Roberts’ were, saying: “How are you and your family today? Hope all is good for you.”

Martin was grateful for their kindness, responding: “Very kind, we’re ok,” alongside a smiley face.

Homes Under the Hammer airs every weekday at 10am on BBC One Daytime.
