Nicola Baker has revealed her husband Matt Baker’s sister, Ruby, was diagnosed with Covid last year and has been struggling ever since. The latter, who is a teacher, has since began painting to aid her recovery, as the presenter’s wife gushed over her work on Instagram.

Painting has really helped her recovery

Nicola shared a painting done by Ruby of a bright red toadstool on a midnight blue background.

Alongside the canvas, the spouse of the Countryfile host typed: “We’re all quite arty in our family – I love making and baking, Matt loves to paint, my mum knits and makes cards. We’re all often found doing something creative when we get the chance!

“This was painted by my lovely sister in law @revivedbyruby!

“Ruby was a teacher until she got Covid a year ago and has been coping with long Covid ever since.

“Sometimes life takes you in an unexpected direction, it’s how you adapt to the change that keeps you moving forwards.”

Underneath fans gushed over the talented family, as they also wished Ruby well in her recovery.

One said: “What a truly gifted family! So sorry that your sister in law ended up with debilitating long Covid. Let’s hope she is on the road to complete recovery before too long but good for her that she isn’t letting it take over. Art is always therapeutic and that she has come up with ideas that uses her skills and imagination in a practical way is fantastic!”

Another replied: “That’s really beautiful and unique. Hope your sister in law makes a full recovery.”

While a third commented: “Beautiful painting by Ruby. I was having exactly that conversation this morning with a friend. Well, partly, we were talking about denial as a coping mechanism. But I said at some point I have to face my disabilities, in order to regroup. That includes mourning and acknowledging my lack of mobility and previous strength. By fully letting go, I can focus on what I can do.”

Matt and Nicola star in Our Farm On The Dales, which shows the Countryfile host on an ambitious mission to make crucial changes to his parents’ organic sheep farm in the Durham hills.

The father-of-two was spurred into action after his mother Janice Baker, 65, was injured when some of their pedigree flock of Hampshire down sheep knocked her down, as she was preparing to shear them.

However, despite having a broken leg and injuries that led to a knee replacement, Janice was determined to continue farming.

Matt’s plan was to restock the remote farm and introduce more suitable breeds to reduce the burden of upkeep on his parents.

The popular TV presenter shared: “My mum has always been a shepherdess. I’ve grown up with her doing that.

“We could never have persuaded her to do otherwise – it was always going to be the sheep!”

The star shared his main concern was for his mother to able to cope during the colder months at the remote farm.

He continued: “Really we are securing the future of the breeding stock on the farm, in a way that mum will be able to cope in the wintertime on the hill. “
