Maura Higgins denies ‘showmance’ with Curtis Pritchard

Maura Higgins has revealed she chose to end her romance with Curtis Pritchard as she refused to ‘fake’ being ‘happy’.

The Love Island stars confirmed they had split earlier in March after seven months of dating. It came as a surprise as Curtis, 24, had been a supportive figure for Maura, 29, during her stint on ITV’s Dancing On Ice.

During their relationship, Maura and Curtis had been accused of putting on a ‘showmance’ to bag endorsement deals and TV work.

However, the former ring girl slams the idea and says she simply couldn’t see a future for their relationship.

‘People say this, but what’s the point?’ Maura told The Sun on Sunday about the ‘showmance’ claims.

She continued: ‘If I’m not happy I’m just not going to be with that person, and I can’t fake anything because my face will tell it straight away. What are you going to gain? Plus, I’m my own brand.

‘I don’t need anyone, there’s no point denying it! I just felt like I’m 29 and I want somebody that I can see a future with. I’m not getting any younger.’

She added: ‘[Curtis] is 24 – maybe he did want that, maybe he didn’t, I don’t know, but I just felt it wasn’t going in that direction. The time apart as well… I want somebody I can be with most days.’

The split came just two weeks after Maura was eliminated from Dancing On Ice alongside her skating partner Alexander Demetriou.

Rumours had swirled about the nature of Maura and Alexander’s friendship despite him being a married man, but she insists there was nothing romantic about it.

‘Alex and I are so close – we’ve trained together for months,’ Maura stated.

‘Obviously, we’re going to be close, exactly like every other partner on the show. But that’s it. We’re very close friends and we get on well.’

The reality star went on to say how she isn’t ‘afraid’ of spending time with Alex, 28, as a friend and has plans to go ice skating with him.

Since the break-up, Curtis has been linked to dancer Bethany Hall after performing together on tour with his brother AJ Pritchard.

But reps for Curtis denied the reports, stating the professional dancer ‘isn’t looking for a relationship right now’.
