This New Book About Meghan Markle May Be More Damaging Than She Thinks
One of the biggest talking points from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s groundbreaking interview with Oprah Winfrey was the British tabloid press’s harsh treatment of the former actress. Markle revealed that the intense negative attention affected her mental health so profoundly she became suicidal. To make matters worse, TV pundit Piers Morgan cruelly mocked Markle on talk show Good Morning Britain, claiming she was lying about how bad things really were during her sojourn with the royal family (via Deadline).
Although the former Suits star’s decision to call out the tabloids is being heralded in many quarters, even leading the head of the Society of Editors to step down after making a dodgy statement defending them (via BBC), it’s sadly also reignited some of the most vitriolic hate towards Markle. On foot of the new interest in the Duchess of Sussex, an infamous celebrity biographer has decided now is the optimum time to dedicate a salacious biography to her — the message seems to be Markle should be very worried.
Tom Bower is infamous for his acid-penned approach
Tom Bower, whose bread and butter is the so-called “unauthorized biography” has set his sights on Markle. According to the Daily Mail, the forensic investigative journalist is ready for a year-long journey into the depths of Markle’s life history. Bower will speak to friends, enemies and various associates of the Duchess so he can build an accurate picture. He’s reportedly signed a six-figure deal for the book, which follows tell-all tomes about Prime Minster Boris Johnson (subtitle: The Gambler) and Prince Charles (Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles). Speaking to The Sun, an insider teased, “This is the book Meghan will be dreading. Tom doesn’t pull his punches and is terrifyingly thorough in his research. No stone will be left unturned.”
Bower’s book comes hot on the heels of Markle’s half-sister Samantha’s The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister Part I which, as its title suggests, is only the start of the provocative story she’s poised to tell (via US Magazine). Bower is known for his “acid pen,” with the source describing his upcoming book about the Duchess as “dynamite.” Royal expert Omid Scobie’s Finding Freedom, which was released in 2020, offered a sympathetic view of the Sussexes but Bower’s take is guaranteed to pull the curtain back particularly if, as expected, he interviews Markle’s estranged father, Thomas, who much like Samantha is happy to discuss his daughter with the press. Markle herself wants no part of it, which isn’t terribly surprising.
