Why Casey Anthony Wanted To Reach Out To Scott Peterson
If you’re a fan of true crime stories, it’s more than likely that you’re already well aware of the Casey Anthony case. For those of you who are not, let us fill you in. Anthony was acquitted of the first-degree murder of her two-year-old daughter Caylee in 2011, per People. Anthony’s acquittal was controversial, as the overwhelming public opinion was that she was more than guilty. Anthony ended up serving a short sentence for much lighter charges and has spent the past decade keeping a low profile, according to the outlet.
And if you’re a true crime buff, you’re also likely familiar with the Scott Peterson case. Peterson was convicted of murdering his pregnant wife Laci in 2004, but has steadfastly maintained his innocence over the past 17 years, per CBS. On the surface, these cases have nothing to do with each other. After all, Anthony and Peterson have never met, one lives in Florida, and one is incarcerated in California. However, it turns out that they are connected in one strange way.
Read on to find out why Anthony wanted to reach out to Peterson, and what she wanted to say.
Casey Anthony wants to help Scott Peterson
In 2019, nearly a decade after her acquittal for first-degree murder, Casey Anthony granted a rare statement to DailyMailTV. She confirmed she was no longer planning on making a reality show (hard to imagine the target audience for that one) and was instead interested in helping “wrongfully convicted” people. “My next project is meeting with Scott Peterson in California this summer,” she told the outlet.
“My opinions on these cases will bring rage to so many people,” she said, before adding that she wasn’t concerned about other people’s reactions. Though Anthony was never convicted of anything, the overwhelming public opinion of her guilt has likely made her sympathetic to those she believes were wrongly convicted themselves.
Anthony explained that she believes police ignored evidence that would point to Peterson’s innocence. She cited the fact that the body of another pregnant woman from the same area was found dumped in the same lake as his late wife’s (both women had the same body parts missing, as well). Anthony believes that indicates that someone else killed Laci. She also cited the burglaries that occurred in the neighborhood at the time.
Did Anthony ever reach out to Peterson and share her theories about his case? As far as anyone knows, no, she did not. She’s been keeping busy though. As of March 2020, she was reportedly writing “a detailed and definitive account of her life … losing Caylee and everything that followed,” per In Touch.
