BTS, Blackpink, Monsta X and more K-pop bands snag nominations on MTV EMAs 2021

The MTV European Music Awards revealed their 2021 nominees on Wednesday, October 20 , and the list is exciting for K-pop fans.

South Korean icons BTS have become the most nominated K-pop group, making it to four different categories including Best Pop, Best K-Pop, Best Group, and Biggest Fans.

In 2020, the Grammy-nominated group won Best Song with Dynamite, and also took home awards for Best Group, Biggest Fans, and Best Virtual Live.

This year, the seven-member band have also snagged a nomination under Best Pop alongside Justin Bieber, Olivia Rodrigo, Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa and Doja Cat.

Other K-pop artists nominated include Blackpink’s Lisa and Rose, Monsta X, Twice, and NCT 127 who have all made it to the Best K-pop category. Filipino boyband SB19 have also gotten a nod under the Best South-east Asia acts category.

Blackpink has also been nominated for Biggest Fans. In 2020, the girl group was nominated for Best Collaboration, Best Group, and Biggest Fans, though they did not win in any of the categories.

How to vote at the MTV EMAs?

Most awards are fan-voted including the 16 main categories and 26 local categories.

The voting period for the main categories except for (i) Biggest Fans, Best Group (ii) and (iii) Best Video, starts on October 18, 2021 at 12pm CET (11pm BST).

While the Biggest Fans and Best Group categories are voted via social media, the award for Best Video is decided by the MTV Editorial Team and is not eligible for voting.

For the Local Categories, fans from any participating country/local region will be able to vote for the Best Local Act nominees.

Voting is now open at and all votes cast until November 10 at 11.59pm CET (10.59pm BST) will be accepted.

To cast your vote, submit your nominee preferences via the website during the applicable voting period. Click the "Vote" button adjacent to the nominee's image or video.

There is no limit to the number of votes fans can submit.

When is MTV EMAs 2021?

The MTV EMAs will take place on n November 14 at Papp László Budapest Sportaréna in Hungary and will be broadcast live in 180 countries.

The award ceremony which is organised every year by Viacom International Media Networks first took place at Berlin in 1994.
