Celtics to name Nets assistant Ime Udoka as new coach

The Celtics are reportedly finalizing an agreement with Nets assistant Ime Udoka to become their new head coach, according to ESPN.

Udoka was among the three finalists who were invited to a second interview with Boston. The other two candidates were Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups and Bucks assistant Darvin Ham.

Udoka, who interviewed for the Knicks job last season, played for the Trail Blazers, Spurs, and Kings over his seven years in the league.

He was an assistant with the Spurs for seven years, then spent one year with the Sixers before 2020 when he joined the Nets staff.

The Celtics job opened when Brad Stevens was promoted from head coach to the front office after Danny Ainge’s departure. Stevens was charged with finding his replacement, and landed on the 43-year-old Udoka.
