An old joke can still sting.
Erika Jayne — who is divorcing disgraced lawyer Tom Girardi — accused her ex on this week’s “RHOBH” of making a tasteless joke about her during a dinner years ago.
“I’ll never forget one time I was joining Tom and five other guys for dinner,” the singer, 49, revealed on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” “I said, ‘I’m sorry I’m late. I was in traffic.’ And one of them said, ‘Well if you were married to a better man, traffic would be no problem.’ And Tom straight looked at him across the table and said, ‘Well, if you think you can afford her, you can have her.’”
Jayne said she never told anyone about the alleged joke because Girardi, 82, supported her “when there was nothing.”
“There’s always that underlying pressure of wanting to please someone that’s provided for you,” she explained. “I felt always that I should shut up and be grateful to an extent.”
Elsewhere in the episode, she revealed that she filed for divorce on Election Day 2020 to attempt to bury the news of her two-decade-long marriage ending.
Jayne also confessed to Lisa Rinna that she “almost floated the idea of trial separation” from Girardi but ultimately knew divorce was the best option.
“[Girardi]’s that old-school generation, which is ‘Get your f–king s–t and go,’” she explained. “You’re in or you’re out. And when you’re out, you’re dead.”
She admitted that the last time she saw her estranged husband was when she dropped him off for work the morning before she filed for divorce.
“I drove off, went to my new place, spent the night there and he was served the next morning,” she said.
While their divorce case is ongoing, Girardi has other legal problems to deal with. He was accused of stealing money from his clients and he lost his license to practice law in March.
“The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.
