The offer is valid for 12 months from activation and anyone aged 16 or older can take part in the promotion.

To get their hands on a free handcrafted coffee, customers simply need to claim the offer via the Costa Coffee Club mobile app from 6th July to 31st July.

Those who don’t fancy a free drink can put the £3 toward a food item instead, such as the stores Millionaire’s Shortbread or British Smoked Bacon Bap.

Neil Lake, managing director of Costa Coffee UK & Ireland, told FEMAIL: ‘We have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback from our customers as we begin to re-open our stores.

‘As we near our next key milestone of 2,000+ store re-openings by the end of July, we’re delighted to treat Costa Coffee fans to a handcrafted drink, on us.

Costa’s promotion comes as other high street coffee giant Pret a Manger said they were going to axe 30 stores putting 1,000 jobs

‘To ensure both our customers and team members are safe we have introduced some new measures across our estate, while also maintaining the warm environment that we know they have been missing.

‘We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone through our doors to enjoy their favourite Costa Coffee drink.’

Costa’s promotion comes as another high street coffee giant, Pret a Manger, said it would axe 30 stores putting 1,000 jobs a risk.

The coffee chain is looking to ‘reduce headcount across remaining UK shops to reflect lower footfall, rental costs and new safety measures’.

It said Covid-19 has seen sales plummet by 74 per cent, meaning it had to make a ‘difficult decision’.

Pret is the latest high street victim of the virus, following drastic cuts at numerous other stores including rivals Uppercrust as well as John Lewis and Harrods.

Almost 200,000 workers at household-name companies have been laid off since the start of lockdown, analysis shows.
