Kim Kardashian dazzled in a pearl-covered Schiaparelli design on the Met Gala 2023 red carpet, but fans couldn’t help but make comparisons to a different gem-adorned moment from her past: her 2007 Playboy cover.

The shoot, which was famously featured on a Season 1 episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” saw the reality star sporting a sparse few strands of pearls — with nothing else underneath.

While this time around she teamed the haute couture baubles with a corset for the “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”-themed night, it didn’t stop fans from seeing double with the two looks.

“Please tell me I’m not the only one who immediately thought of Kim’s playboy shoot…” one TikTok user wrote of the outfit, while another tweeted, “#KimKardashian giving playboy #Metgala.”

“Kim Kardashian really recreated her Playboy shoot for the met lol girl what,” another social media user tweeted, while a fourth agreed the style “just looks like her Playboy shoot but couture.”

“Karl who? This year’s theme is actually ‘Kim: A Lexicon of Fashion’!” the Diet Prada Instagram account chimed in with a side-by-side of the two looks.

If the reference was intentional, Kardashian didn’t mention her cover on the red carpet, instead telling Vogue, “What is more Karl? The iconic Chanel pearls is what I always thought of so we wanted to just be dripping in pearls.”

The star added that some of the “real” pearls popped off prior to the carpet, with daughter North West gathering them up.

Luckily for Kardashian, they didn’t drop into the ocean like her famed diamond earrings.
