WWE announce return of Kurt Angle in NXT just weeks after his release from Vince McMahon with legend set for cage match – The Sun
WWE have announced the return of the legendary Kurt Angle just weeks after he was released.
The Hall of Famer's WWE career looked to be over as his name topped the list of fan favourites axed in a major cull of superstars due to the financial impact of the coronavirus.
But now the Olympic gold medallist, 51, will be making a sensational return next week.
WWE revealed on Saturday that Angle will be appearing on Wednesday night’s NXT broadcast as a special guest referee for the cage match between Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher.
And within moments he confirmed the news himself on Twitter, writing: “I’m coming to WWE NXT next week. #itstrue.”
Thatcher debuted several weeks again as Riddle’s partner to replace Pete Dunne, who was unable to defend the NXT Tag Team Titles due to travel restrictions.
The newly-formed pair struggled to re-create the chemistry and that resulted in them dropping the belts to Imperimium and leading to a furious fall-out.
WWE’s announcement added: “Thatcher called for a match that could only be won by knockout or tap-out. Riddle one-upped him, proposing that they meet inside a cage.
“But what kind of a cage exactly does Riddle — who is familiar with fighting inside chain link as a former UFC welterweight — have in mind? And what sort of impact might Angle have?”
