BBC Breakfast fans were not impressed after watching an interview with Defence Secretary Ben Wallace.

Many viewers even declared that they were "changing channels" after being less than impressed with host Louise Minchin's interviewing skills.

There had been significant coverage about Afghanistan throughout the programme and so many were very much hoping that MP Ben would be held to account on TV.

Host Louise, led the discussion which saw viewers of the show slam producers for putting the presenter at the forefront, adding that Charlie Stayt should have taken the reigns instead.

Quizzing the Defence Secretary, Louise asked: "How much of this is a failure by the US and the UK government?"

Mr Wallace responded: "Well look if it’s a failure, it’s a failure of the international community to realise that you don’t fit things overnight.

"I'm afraid that when you deal with a country like Afghanistan, that it’s a thousand years of history and civil war, you managed its problems and you might have to manage it for hundreds of years.

"It's not something you just rock in and rock out and expect something to be fixed."

Many Twitter users were fuming with Louise's questioning of the politician and vowed to switch over as a result.

One tweet read: "What a waste of an interview. Louise you should of let Charlie or Naga interview him!!"

Another vented: "Had to change the channel cause otherwise I would have thrown something.

"What a lot of BS …'we deeply care'… I think they need to read up what that word means.

"It wasn't a wasted effort, girls went to school '…until now,' another commented."

While a third added: "Ben Wallace allowed to blather on & on.

"A little bit of scrutiny wouldn't go a miss but I suppose it is the Tory run bbc. #BBCBreakfast."

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am BBC One
