EastEnders' Maisie Smith straddles a punchbag in bizarre gym workout as she prepares for Strictly

EASTENDERS star Maisie Smith straddled a punchbag in a bizarre gym workout tonight.

The Tiffany Butcher actress, who has signed up to Strictly Come Dancing, was filmed swinging from the gym bag in a hilarious video on Instagram tonight.

Maisie, 19, showed off her strength as she lept into the air and gripped the bag with her arms and legs as her pal laughed at her antics off camera.

The Strictly contestant captioned her video: "So what do u do at the gym?"

Maisie should have no problem keeping up with the dance routines on Strictly as she often shares videos showing off her incredible fitness and dance skills at home.

She also won a Children In Need version of Strictly last year with pro Kevin Clifton.

Joining her on the dancefloor will be MP Jacqui Smith, 57, who was famously caught up in the expenses scandal after claiming public cash for two porn films watched by her hubby.

Boxer Nicola Adams, 37, is in Strictly’s first same-sex couple.

Others in this year’s line-up include singer Max George, 31, and comedian Bill Bailey, 55.

Maisie's Strictly signing came as a surprise after she clashed with soap producers over backhand social media deals and being caught smoking cannabis at the wheel of her car.

But now the youngster has been given a plum role on the juggernaut dancing show Strictly, despite bosses confirming that they had opened an investigation into her unruly behaviour last month.

A source said about Maisie, who has been on EastEnders since 2008: “It’s unthinkable that Strictly would sign her after the few weeks she’s had.

“She was caught smoking a spliff at the wheel of her car, before BBC bosses investigated her over TikTok deals she had done without their permission.

“Strictly is the pinnacle of the BBC and gives rising stars and established ones a huge step to more fame, so it’s very weird to give someone whose future was very unclear just weeks ago such an opportunity.

“Perhaps they see it as a way of nailing down one of the show’s rising stars rather than her just leaving and taking with her a young audience."
