GMB’s Dr Hilary Jones red-faced over awkward face mask blunder amid show return

Good Morning Britain fans were delighted to see Dr Hilary Jones return to the show earlier today, after weeks of absence.

Dr Sarah Jarvis had replaced the doc on the show after he led the nation through the height of the Covid pandemic with helpful tips and medical advice.

However, his GMB comeback got off to an awkward start when he failed to put on his face mask properly, and grappled with it on the camera.

The 67-year-old doc showed off the wacky gifts he had received from viewers, which included a tailor-made facemask with the words "What's Up Doc" printed on the front.

He said: "So someone sends me a personalised mask…"

Demonstrating the use of the mask, he stuck it on his face, only for the elastic to dramatically ping off the side of his head.

Dr Hilary exclaimed: "Whoops! Struggling to get it on."

After a moment of wrestling with it, he managed to get the mask back on his face, successfully covering his mouth and nose.

Adil Ray tried to rescue Dr Hilary in the moment, recovering the awkwardness by making a joke about whether the gift's sender had been "hiding in the bushes" outside the doc's house.

Charlotte Hawkins then quizzed Dr Hilary about his recent holiday to France, wondering had he returned to the UK before quarantine restrictions came into place.

She wondered: "We understand you went to France Hilary, so when did you get back?"

He replied: "I got back about 10 days ago so no need to incarcerate me."

Before adding: "I was aware when I was over there that they were talking about imposing a quarantine at some time in the future."

Urging viewers to be wary before booking a holiday, he said: "There is the likelihood that you will be quarantining for some days."

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV.
