How many episodes of Emmerdale are left?

ITV favourite Emmerdale halted filming on 22 March, ahead of the Prime Minister announcing the lockdown in the UK.

As a result, the broadcasting network has taken measures to try and space out pre-recorded episodes as much as possible.

The revised lockdown timetable features just three showings a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

But Emmerdale fans might be left a little disappointed over the coming weeks, as it looks like episodes will slowly run out. Here’s what to know…

ITV has confirmed Emmerdale will run out of episodes at the end of May – although an exact date has not been specified.

The government has given soaps like Emmerdale the green light to get filming going again, however it will depend on whether or not they can do so and observe social distancing measures at the same time.

As such, no concrete plans to produce more episodes are in place just yet.

When will Emmerdale filming resume?

ITV boss Kevin Lygo hasn’t revealed a date for Emmerdale filming to resume.

He has, however, warned that the soap will look a little different when production picks up, as the team will have to ensure cast and crew members are kept safe.

Speaking at Edinburgh Television Festival, which took place online this year, Kevin revealed ITV is working to bring the soap back.

He said: ‘They are working really hard now as to how, when, if and when restrictions are lifted a bit, how can we make the soaps in a safe way.

‘They are being inventive and creative about rejigging storylines, I think we have got to accept there will be no more than two people talking in a room, and looking at ways of shooting where people don’t appear to be six feet apart.

‘We won’t go back in shooting until we are convinced it is safe, we don’t want to put any of our staff, our cast and our crew, at risk.

‘Some people who are in a dangerous zone, by age or health reasons, they won’t be there, I’m sure, for a time.’

Emmerdale is next on tonight at 7:00pm on ITV.
