James Bond: Pierce Brosnan issues warning to next potential 007 star: ‘Make peace with it’
James Bond as a franchise has been going strong for almost over half a century. The iconic character has seen countless iterations in film, TV, and indeed by actors. Current Bond – Daniel Craig – is just about to see his sunset movie, No Time To Die, which is due out at the end of the year.
With Craig finally stepping down from the role after five movies, all eyes are on the next potential Bond stars.
Of course, the beginnings of a new Bond’s career could be life-altering, as arguably the most iconic British character is brought to life once again – with big shoes to fill.
Former Bond Pierce Brosnan recently spoke to the Guardian about his career, and indeed his stint as the character some decades ago.
He first praised the role, calling Bond the “gift that keeps giving,” before explaining it has given him a “wonderful career”.

And he isn’t exaggerating. Although the star was eager to do a fifth Bond movie the production team supposedly passed on him before they got the chance.
Despite this, Brosnan went on to star in huge films such as The Matador, The Ghost Writer, and the recently released Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.
Although Brosnan has been quite present in recent years in spite of his final Bond movie snub, he did issue a warning to any potential Bond actors out there.
He explained: “Once you’re branded as a Bond, it’s with you for ever.
“So you better make peace with it and you’d better understand that when you walk through those doors and pick up the mantle of playing James Bond.”
Rumours have been circulating in recent months over who is going to take over that important mantle, with Sam Heughan and James Norton reportedly in the front running.
However, when prompted about bringing a the character into the 21st century by either casting a woman or a person of colour, Brosnan avoided the question.
Brosnan tapped his kitchen table, smiled, and said: “I’m gonna leave that right there.”

While Outlander star Heughan has been the favourite to take over the role next, that recently changed.
According to bookmakers Coral, James Norton is better equipped for the role – and the latest odds seem to indicate that.
Norton now has a healthy dose of 6-4 odds on becoming Bond after Craig.
Coral’s John Hill recently explained: “James Norton looks destined to be 007 one day.

“And our betting suggests that is likely to come sooner rather than later as he is our hot favourite to replace Daniel Craig.”
Norton is best known for his appearances in McMafia, where he stunned fans with his performance.
But considering how well known Heughan is, and indeed how popular his career is at the moment with the ongoing series Outlander, could he have the edge?
James Bond No Time To Die will be released November 12 2020.
