Speaking about the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral on Thursday’s show, he pointed out all of the guests attending are white. He went on to ask one guest on the panel show if she thought it was a “problem”. Viewers slammed Jeremy for “race baiting” ahead of the memorial on Saturday in Windsor.
Jeremy began: “We are going to see a group of 30 people who are going to be at this very restricted funeral.
“I’m imagining it will be 30 people who are white.
“I’m just trying to think whether there’s anybody of colour in there and I don’t think so. Do you think that’s a problem?”
Guest Shay Grewal replied: “No I don’t think it’s a problem at all.
“Look, at the end of the day the Royal Family are a family so if someone passes away you are going to have your most beloved members of your family there.”
Viewers took to Twitter to slam Jeremy for his line of questioning.
One posted: “It’s not a problem but let’s ask the question anyway so that we can try to turn it into one. How is this not simply race baiting?”
Another added: “I am genuinely staggered at this statement from Jeremy Vine. It’s pure race baiting.”
A third tweeted: “What a ghastly thing to say,” while another declared: “Jeremy Vine is cancelled.”
