Judge Rinder tears up as he reveals his grandfather, 92, died from coronavirus

Judge Rinder got emotional during today’s This Morning as he revealed his 92-year-old grandfather has passed away after contracting coronavirus.

The TV star – real name Robert Rinder – was appearing on the show via a video link from his home when he made the sad admission to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.

The 41-year-old paid touching tribute to his grandfather live on-air.

‘Can I say one other quick thing, if that’s alright?’ Robert began.

‘My grandfather, who was 92, passed away two nights ago of this terrible disease, and the thing is, he survived the Second World War and he was a man that was determined to see joy in the world.

‘As much as there is terrible and appalling news, we need to remember that there are thousands of people who are recovering from this disease every day.’

Sharing memories of his beloved family member, the judge added: ‘Whenever I saw him, which was very often and I loved him very much, he would say, “What good news is there, son?”

‘It’s been a challenging time but I remember him in that positive way.’

Eamonn and Ruth ended the video link by offering Robert their condolences.

‘What a lovely sentiment,’ they added. ‘We’re so sorry for your loss.’

At the time of writing, reports reveal there have been 33,718 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the UK, with 191 recoveries and 2,921 deaths.

Recently, Gogglebox star Sandra Martin has also used her public platform to announce that her brother’s wife and sister-in-law’s daughter passed away just days apart after contracting coronavirus.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Sandra urged people to listen to the government’s advice and to stay in doors and self-isolate.

It was also announced yesterday that comedy legend Eddie Large had died aged 78 from COVID-19.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
