Katy Perry dazzles with mind-bending American Idol final performance
Katy Perry performed her new single Daisies for the first time last night on the American Idol finale, which was filmed live from coronavirus lockdown.
The acoustic-tinged bop serves as the lead single from Katy’s fifth album, and was preceeded by the stand-alone singles Never Really Over, Small Talk and Never Worn White.
The Teenage Dream hitmaker serves as a judge on the Idol panel, alongside Lionel Richie and country singer Luke Bryan, and had no problem taking to the stage, even whilst being heavily pregnant with her first child with fiancee Orlando Bloom.
Using some mind-bending virtual reality technology, Katy could be seen wandering around an expanding landscape, full of levitating objects and dangerous cliffs.
Basically, something a heavily pregnant woman should avoid, but it was fine! It was all digital.
And the song is a bop, so who are we to argue?
Last week, the Hot N Cold star dropped the visuals for Daises, and it’s a pretty gorgeous vibe.
Last night, filmed during the coronavirus lockdown, 22-year-old Just Sam was crowned the winner of Idol’s second season, becoming the seventh female to win the contestant in the show’s history.
She beat out singer-songwriter Arthur Gunn to the title, and lets just say that it’s divided viewers at home.
Sam – a former Subway busker – clinched her victory with her rousing renditions of Kelly Clarkson’s What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger) and Andra Day’s Rise Up.
As for her competition, Arthur performed I Don’t Want To Be by Gavin DeGraw and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Have You Ever Seen The Rain.
Awkwardly, Teenage Dream hitmaker Perry predicted that Arthur would go on to win the title.
American Idol airs on ABC in the US.
