Kelsey Grammer confirms Frasier revival will go ahead

Frasier is officially coming back with Kelsey Grammer set to reprise the role after 17 years.

The sitcom about an uptight psychiatrist and his family and friends ran for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004.

Rumours have been circulating about a revival for some time, but the new series has found its home on streaming platform Paramount Plus.

Revealing the news, Kelsey said he couldn’t wait to share what is in store for the character.

He said in a statement: ‘Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I’d like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world.

‘I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.’

It is not known if other cast members, such as David Hyde Pierce as Frasier’s brother Niles or Peri Gilpin as his radio producer Roz, are returning.

Actor John Mahoney, who starred as Frasier and Niles’ dad Martin, died in 2018.

Fans were first introduced to Dr Crane in the sitcom Cheers in 1984 where he was a regular at the series’ focal bar.

Frasier was a spin-off which saw the radio host return to his home town of Seattle.

Kelsey has played the character in three different TV programmes – Cheers, Wings and Frasier – and won a load of awards for the role including six Emmys and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

The last episode of the original series saw him leave Seattle for Chicago to be with his girlfriend Charlotte, played by Laura Linney.
