'Sex and the City': How Old Are the Characters Now?
Sex and the City was a show loved by many people. The romantic comedy-drama starred Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis as four 30-something best friends living their best lives in New York City. The series ran for six seasons, ending in 2004 after a six-year run. But it remains popular for its iconic friendships and raw themes.
These days, we can’t help but wonder what their lives are like now, including the ages of the Sex and the City characters. Here, we’re discussing that and more about these four friends.
How old are the ‘Sex and the City’ characters?
Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), the leader of the group, has come a long way since fans first met her in 1998. Starting out as a sex columnist, Carrie is now a published and world-famous author. She’s also (finally) the wife of Mr. Big, whom she married in the first Sex and the City movie (2008). The pop culture website The Dipp reports that Carrie is between 52 and 54 at the time of this writing.
Charlotte (Davis), Carrie’s friend from the ’80s, has also seen her dreams materialize. Married with two children, this hopeless romantic truly has everything she ever wanted. Charlotte’s character biography on Fandom places her at 53 years old.
Meanwhile, Miranda Hobbes (Nixon) continues to see success in both her professional and personal life. Aged 54 (via Fandom), she’s a high-powered lawyer with a loving husband and son at home.
The oldest and arguably the wisest person in the friend circle is Samantha Jones (Cattrall). Open-minded and nonjudgmental, she was a big source of support to her girls, always encouraging them to live out their true desires. Samantha celebrated her 50th birthday in the first movie, suggesting she’d be around 62 now.
The ‘Sex and the City’ revival will follow them in their next stages of life
More than 15 years after the show’s conclusion, it was announced in January that HBO had approved a Sex and the City revival. Titled And Just Like That…, the show will follow Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte “as they navigate love and friendship in their 50s,” per Variety. (Cattrall is not involved in the show, as she’s said she wants to move past it and focus on other things.)
Not much else is known about the revival, but Parker told Vanity Fair she’s “excited” to get back to work.
“I think that Cynthia, Kristin, and I are all excited about the time that has passed,” she said. “You know, who are they in this world now? Have they adapted? What part have they played? Where have they fallen short as women, as friends, and how are they finding their way? Did they move with momentum? Are they like some people who are confused, threatened, nervous [by what’s happening in the world]? I’m so curious and excited to see how the writers imagine these women today.”
There’s no known release date for the Sex and the City revival just yet, but Variety noted that it is expected to enter production in the spring of 2021. Stay tuned to Showbiz Cheat Sheet for more updates as they become available.
