StartUp is airing on Netflix now, with all three seasons available for fans to binge. The 2016 show originally aired on Crackle before being picked up by the global streaming platform. Fans are keen to find out more about who played the character, Vera, in the first two seasons.
Who plays Vera in StartUp?
Vera was a recurring character in the first two seasons of the American crime drama series.
She is Alex’s (Aaron Yoo) business manager who appears later on in the first season, and she clashes with Wes Chandler (Ron Perlman).
In the final episode of the first season, she also faces Phil Rask (Martin Freeman) in an interrogation.
She is played by Vera Cherny – a 39-year-old Russian actress known for her roles in The Americans and Counterpart.
She has also previously starred in Queen of the South as Oksana Volkova and Grey’s Anatomy as Noelle.
Fans would have most likely recognised the star from the final season of Queen of the South, which has just finished airing.
Her first TV credit is from 2008, in the short titled What Are You Looking At?
In the years that followed she appeared in a number of other shorts, with StartUp being her first regular small-screen project.
Cherny was born in Primorsky Krai, Russia, to an Army officer, and a teacher.
Her family moved around a lot due to her father’s job and she was just two months old when they first relocated.
When she was just three years old, she began performing at a ballet school in Altengrabow, in former East Germany.
At the age of 16, she moved to America on a scholarship from the Freedom Support Act.
She studied in America whilst training as an actress in regional theatre productions, graduating from the Actors Studio Drama School in New York City.
The star is on Instagram and in her bio, she describes herself as an “actor, activist, immigrant, nerd.”
She shared a clip from StartUp, shortly after the series was added to Netflix, and fans went wild.
The clip featured her character, Vera, on a boat, along with Alex. She said: “When people ask me how I spent my lockdown.
“Also @startup_crackle is still trending on @Netflix. Thank you all for the #LOVE!”
Fans took to the comments to share their love for the series, with one saying: “I really, really love this show, I hope to see even more!”
Meanwhile, another said: “Queen you bodied your role well you’ve done that every time I’ve seen you on picture. Even when you lost your temper in this scene I was like (shocked face emoji).” [Sic]
A third said: “Omg my fave show !!!! Watching it now!”
She has also been sharing plenty of clips from the latest season of Queen of the South, which ended on an emotional note.
The StartUp series ran for three seasons on Crackle, from 2016 to 2018, and it is yet to be picked up for a fourth.
At this moment in time, there is no news on whether Netflix will be able to revive the high-octane show.
The series also stars Adam Brody as Nick Talman and Edi Gathegi as Ronald Dacey.
Other stars include Otmara Marrero as Izzy Morales and Addison Timlin as Mara Chandler.
