The Conners cancellation fears erupt as producer addresses future
Whoopi Goldberg guest stars on ABC’s The Conners
ABC’s hit sitcom The Conners is the acclaimed spin-off to come from Roseanne, which ended in 2018.
The show follows the titular family and unveils their daily financial woes as they struggle to get by in Illinois.
Although the series has maintained a steady rating and viewership since its 2018 premiere, there’s a possibility The Conners could come to an end with season six.
With the season five finale set to premiere on Wednesday, May 3, fans have already grown concerned about the show’s future.
Although executive producer, Bruce Helford admitted the series ending was “definitely a possibility,” he also revealed season six may be significantly shorter than past instalments.

“The conversation right now is about how many episodes can we do [depending on] whatever happens with the writers’ strike.
Speaking to TV Line, he warned: “There may only be 13 episodes.
“Obviously, we always want to do 20 or 22 [episodes], but at this point in time, we’re talking about if we can do 13 – God willing – and if we can do more, we’ll do more.”
Although the series finale has yet to be confirmed, The Conners have been laying the groundwork for the end.
The season five finale will feature a major milestone for Mark Connor – Healy II (played by Ames McNamara) who made his appearance in season 10 of Roseanne.
The synopsis teased: “As Mark’s graduation approaches, he considers his relationship with his father; Louise plans a big graduation ceremony at the Lunch Box.”
As a result, Mark is less likely to be featured moving forward as he goes off to college
Darlene Conner (Sara Gilbert) and Ben Olinsky (Jay R Ferguson) have also decided to start working on their relationship.
The couple could decide to leave Illinois for a fresh start elsewhere.
The Conners season 5 continues Wednesdays on ABC in the USA.
