Tragic EastEnders death confirmed as funeral scenes filmed
A say day dawns in Walford, with EastEnders starting to film scenes for Lola Pearce’s (Danielle Harold) funeral, which confirms that her death is imminent.
The popular character, as viewers know, has less than six months to live, after being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour last year.
The hairdresser had been undergoing treatment since her diagnosis in an attempt to prolong her life, but an MRI scan recently revealed that the chemotherapy had stopped working, after she began suffering spells of memory loss and zoning out.
Lola was subsequently summoned to the hospital, where she was told that she now has only six months left to live, leaving both she and husband Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) devastated.
The young mum shared news of her prognosis with Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) last week, before asking husband Jay to adopt daughter Lexi (Isabella Brown) before she dies, which caused some controversy with Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden).
Ben, however, ultimately came to believe that this was for the best, as he made it his mission to help Lola and Jay in whatever way he can, with scenes set to air this week seeing he and Billy come up with a plan to support struggling Jay so that he can make memories with his beloved Lola.
Lola will subsequently accompany Jay on a special day out to the seaside, with actors Danielle Harold and Jamie Borthwick spotted filming on-location in Margate last month.
The end is growing closer, however, with Lola’s heartbreaking death sooner than fans expected, with EastEnders now getting ready to film her funeral scenes.
A funeral cortege, with the hearse and flowers spelling out Lola’s name, was spotted arriving at the set of the BBC One soap ahead of what will no doubt be devastating scenes.
A white coffin lies inside, with a number of special messages from Walford icons, including Kat Slater, written on the side.
‘life can be so cruel, so heartbroken’, reads a message written by Bobby Beale, which can be seen in one of the pictures above.
EastEnders viewers were aware that Lola would die before the festive season, with a historic flash-forward scene to Christmas 2023 having seen her picture sitting on the bar, which is usually a mark of respect from the Queen Vic owners for a resident who has died.
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
