Janine Butcher's return to EastEnders is set to "send shockwaves around Walford", it has been teased.
Back in April, it was reported that Charlie Brooks, who played the soap's most iconic supervillain, was set to make her hotly anticipated comeback after seven years, and now the news has been officially confirmed.
And viewers are set to be in for a real treat as the popular soap's executive producer Jon Sen said in a statement: "Janine is one of EastEnders most iconic characters who is loved, and often despised, in equal measure by viewers and all those in Walford.
"Charlie's portrayal of Janine over the years has created some of EastEnders most memorable moments, and we are all really excited to see Charlie bring her incredible portrayal of Janine back again."
Jon dramatically added: "We have lots of drama in store for Janine, in fact, it may be wise for some of the residents of Walford to invest in some slip-on shoes…"
A further tease on the soap's social media channels said that Janine will "send shockwaves around Walford".
"And with enemies to boot around every corner, trouble will no doubt follow her back to E20," it was added.
Meanwhile, Janine actress Charlie, 40, herself gushed over her comeback, saying in a clip: "I am beyond excited to be slipping back into Janine's shoes and returning to the Square.
"The time feels right and I can't wait to find out what she's been up to for the last seven years! She is and always has been SO much fun to play. Feels a bit like coming home. It's good to be back."
EastEnders fans last saw Janine Butcher on screens seven years ago.
As she last left Albert Square in 2014, Janine boarded a train to Paris after being forced to leave Walford behind when she was found not guilty for husband Michael Moon's murder.
Janine has always kept viewers biting their nails, with one famous storyline seeing her push husband Barry Evans off a cliff, leaving him to die as he cried for help.
Charlie continued to act after leaving her EastEnders role, and she starred as Tanya Moxton in Channel 5 series Suspects and popped up as Tamora in Alex Oates' play All in a Row in 2019.
