Hollyoaks’ Brendan Brady (Emmett J Scanlan) made a surprise appearance in the soap this week, much do the delight of fans.

With production on the soap halting due the coronavirus pandemic, Hollyoaks bosses decided to ration new episodes, only airing them on Monday and Tuesday.

For the rest of the week, the soap’s usual slots will be filled by Hollyoaks Favourites, a trip down memory lane to relive fans’ most loved instalments.

An episode, which originally aired way back in 2013, featuring Brendan brought tears to many eyes and left people wondering just what happened to the iconic Irishman.

What happened to Hollyoaks’ Brendan Brady?

Brendan first joined the soap in 2010, making his debut in a scene that saw a row between his sister Cheryl Brady and Mercedes Fischer. He’s taken under the wing of his younger sister, who allows him to manage nightclub The Loft.

The character quickly became the village’s resident bad boy, and was embroiled in a number of dramatic storylines throughout his three years on the soap.

They include the accidental death of friend-turned-rival Danny Houston, an undercover drug smuggling operation, and his tumultuous relationship with Ste Hay.

Despite his questionable antics, Brendan soon became the antihero of Hollyoaks and a firm fan favourite.

Brendan bowed out of the soap in 2013, after Emmett decided the time had come to leave the character behind.

He was given one last explosive narrative which saw the return of his father Seamus, who attempted to beat and sexually abuse Brendan again, as he had done so many times before.

Seamus is interupted by Cheryl who shots him dead, however Brendan is adament he will take the fall for the murder.

With an apparent death wish, Brendan pulls an unloaded gun on the police who do not hesitate to shoot him.

In his final episode, it is revealed Brendan survivde the sniper’s shot, however exits the soap as he’s arrested and taken to prison.

He said: ‘7years ago I left this complicated chap behind. It was my first break in the UK. I have so many fond memories, even fell in love & married one of my co-stars.

‘The response tonight from the fans has been staggering. To everyone who said yes to me, I will be forever grateful.’
